Dear Readers,
Right now, I should be writing any number of projects. Yet for some unknown reason, I am obsessing about the lyrics to Old Time Rock-n-Roll by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet band.
True story.
I have questions. Many questions.
Lyric: “Don’t want to hear them play a tango”
Where is Bob Seger hanging out that they play the tango? Wouldn’t you suspect that an establishment played tango music before you ever entered? Or, more darkly, is someone randomly playing tango music at Bob without prior approval? If so, what kind of person does that?
Lyric: “Just want to hear some blues and funky old soul.”
Aren’t blues, funk and soul three different kinds of music… none of which are technically rock-n-roll? Such things bother me.
Lyric: “Call me a relic, call me what you will. Say I’m old fashioned, say I’m over the hill.”
Who is saying this stuff to you, Bob? Is it the same person who is force-playing tango music in your presence?
Lyric: “Take those old records off the shelf”
By this point, I’m picturing Bob Seger in his basement with all the walls lined with shelves and records. Some evil fiend is playing tango music to him non-stop while be begs for said fiend to take other records down and play them. This isn’t a song. It’s a hidden code for someone to free Bob Seger ASAP.
And now that I have shared my latest obsession with you, dear reader, I can get back to work.
Maybe.
